Accidental Hero, The

Synopsis
Explores the backgroud of Oskar Schindler, the Czech-born factory owner who saved the lives of hundreds of Jewish slave workers during World War 2. He became a hero, but was also a Nazi, a womaniser and a black marketeer. Using interviews with his widow Emilie, author Thomas Keneally, and some of the survivors whom Schindler rescued, the programme explores the nature of heroism. Survivors still ask why the lessons of the Holocaust have yet to be learned. Filmed on location at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, where Schindler is buried, Argentina and England.
