Transistor Configurations, The
- Synopsis
- Considers a P-N-P crystal having a wide central region. The concentration graphs for this crystal are given and it is seen how the application of a forward voltage at one of the P-N junctions, and a reverse voltage at the other, modifies the form of these graphs. A transistor is obtained when the width of the central region is reduced. This causes a further change in the concentration graphs. The slopes of the minority concentration graphs, in each of the three zones, are related to the values of collector, emitter and base current. The value of the base current is seen to decrease when the impurity content of the base is reduced and also when the surface area of the collector is increased. The gains of the common base, common collector and common emitter configurations are then considered in detail and also the corresponding saturation currents.
