Transient Behaviour of the Transistor, The

Synopsis
When a stepped-voltage pulse is applied to the input of a transistor, the curve of the output current as a function of time will show deviations from the rectangular form. Discusses the rise-time TR and fall-time TF with the help of the concentration graphs. Moreover, when the stepped-voltage pulse causes the transistor to shift from the cut-off state to the saturation state and back again so that the transistor functions as a switch, a delay in the output current occurs. The turn-on delay time T and the saturation time TS are explained with the help of both the concentration graphs and the output characteristics of the transistor.
