Total War in Britain

Synopsis
The story of the total mobilisation of Britain’s manpower and industrial resources for war, in the four years from Dunkirk to the invasion of western Europe. The film is based on an offical British government report, ‘Statistics Relating to the War Effort in the United Kingdom’. Contains both library footage and material especially shot by the Realist Film Unit. Some of the information is presented in the form of diagrams and animations. Both civilian and military aspects of the subject are dealt with - food, commodities, industrial production, factories armaments, rationing, the use of allotments for growing food and queuing are all described.
