Subtitle
Peyote hunt of the Huichols of Mexico, The
Synopsis
About a pivotal event of Huichol religious and ritual life, a pilgrimage led by a Shaman to obtain peyote, a hallucinogenic drug used for religious purposes which is present in a particular type of cactus. The pilgrims symbolically return to their origins and play the parts of their own ancestors. The commentary is adapted from a text dictated by the leader of the peyote group, so that the events are not seen only through the eyes of the enthnographer but more directly from the participants’ point of view.
