Tirion Programme, The

Synopsis
As the British govenment prepares to start work on building the UK’s first pressurised water nuclear reactor - the type that failed in the Three Mile Island accident in the United States - the experts are still unsure of its safety. Shows how scientists disagree fundamentally over the dangers posed by this kind of reactor and reveals for the first time the results of a computer program known as Tirion. Using Tirion, atomic energy scientists can now predict how many people would die if there were a nuclear reactor accident in Britain. The computer counts the number of adults and children who would be killed - either from an immediate radiation or from long-term illnesses caused by the radiation after a major accident.
