Time and Frequency (6 Parts)

Synopsis
1: Uses a spectrum analyser and oscilloscope to show that non-sinusoidal periodic signals can be resolved into harmonic frequency components.
2: Demonstrates the principle of amplitude modulation, showing upper and lower sidebands and effect of different levels of carrier. Envelope independence of carrier, demodulation.
3: Illustrates the frequency spectrum of sinusoidally modulated frequency modulation, relating spectral components to the corresponding Bessel functions. Spectrum for square wave modulation.
4: Shows pulse-width modulation (PWM) in operation with various kinds of modulating signal, with oscilloscope waveform. Spectra of PWM signals, and requirements for demodulation. Application of PWM to high power switching amplifier.
5: Using oscilloscope and spectrum analyser, illustrates the relationships between pulse shape and frequency spectrum. Square, triangular pulses, grouped pulses and pseudo-random sequence.
6: Overview of different styles of modulation, illustrated by waveforms and spectra. Includes AM, FM, PAM, PWM, PCM.
