Tibet

Synopsis
Describes the social changes that have taken place since 1950 when the Chinese Communist army entered Tibet to re-establish what the Chinese considered their rightful territory. Interviews with a range of Tibetan people - from those born into slavery to some of the Dalai Lama’s own ruling class who chose to remain in Tibet - show how these changes have affected the lives of the people now loyal to their new society. Using rare archive footage of both serfs at work and colourful ceremonies, records the conditions of life in pre-Communist Tibet; the cruelty of the feudal order, the oppression and splendour of the Church and the extreme poverty of the mass of the people.
