Three Colours CÉzanne

Alternative title
Paul Cézanne
Synopsis
Paul Cézanne is widely acknowledged as the ‘father’ of modern art. Although initially associated with the impressionists, his innovations in representing the natural world laid the foundations for the art of the 20th century, paving the way for cubism and abstract art. This film examines many of Céznne’s works in detail and draws on the observations of a wide range of historians and commentators, including Howard Hodgkin, R B Kitaj, Bridget Riley, John Golding and the artist’s graddaughter Aline Cézanne. Filmed at the Grand Palais in Paris, Cézanne’s home town of Aix-en-Provence, the artists’ colony of Auvers-sur-Oise and the Barnes Foundation in Marion, Pennsylvania.
