Three Approaches to Counseling
- Synopsis
- Psychologist Allen Ivey works with a single client from three theoretical perspectives. In the first segment, he shows how basic listening skills can be used to draw out past experiences of a client with psychodynamic theory. In the second segment, Ivey demonstrates the positive reframing techniques of logotherapy, enabling the client to change some thinking patterns. The final segment focuses on behaviour change. Ivey uses behavioural assertiveness training to bring action into concert with cognitions from the first two sessions.
