Testing Teachers?
- Synopsis
- 'Appraisal’ is much discussed within the teaching profession. In the early 1980s the media exploited Sir Keith Joseph’s concerns about the qulity of the teaching professions to run a series of stories about ‘weeding out’ ‘dunce’ teachers. This film explores two methods of appraising teachers: peer appraisal and appraisal on a line-management model, a pilot project set us by the Conservative government in 1986. The first is shown as practised at Stantonbury Campus in Milton Keynes, where pairs of teachers work together on a voluntary basis and set their own agenda; the second features a Croydon primary school headteacher interviewing a member of her staff. The two case studies show the appraisal in action and include interviews with the teachers and development officers involved.

At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
