Ten Times Empty

Synopsis
Shows life on Symi, a barren but beautiful Greek island in the Aegean Sea close to the coast of Turkey. The island has suffered a decline in prosperity and population over the past fifty or more years; the sponge and fishing grounds are depleted and the craft of boatbuilding is dying out. Well over half the adult males work away from Symi as merchant seamen and nearly everything on the island is imported. The narrator is a twelve-year-old son of a fisherman.
