Tempus de Baristas

Alternative title
Time of the Barmen
Synopsis
Depicts a fast-disappearing way of life - that of goat-herders in the mountains of eastern Sardinia. Three generations are seen: Pietro, a teenager, is thinking of going on to secondary school to study hotel management, an aim his 62-year-old father Franchisco supports, although he would also like him to stay in the mountains. Miminu, a 43-year-old friend, loves the life but is struggling to make a living, and still unmarried, faces increasing isolation. The film shows aspects of the transformation of pastoral communities by the squeeze of falling prices for produce, coupled with the attraction of social mobility out of pastoralism via education, or the shorter hours of conventional jobs.
