Temples of Malta, The

Synopsis
From 3000-2000 B.C. the peoples of the small islands of Malta and Gozo in the central Mediterranean built some remarkable megalithic temples of unique design. These little-known temples, together with rock-cut tombs, indicate a high level of culture unparalleled in western Europe at that time. The evolution of the trefoil plan is shown, and the influence of contemporary civilisation upon art, sculpture and pottery in these islands is dealt with.
