Synopsis
Follows the struggles of asylum seekers in Britain for recognition of their basic human rights and investigates abuses on asylum seekers in detention centre and prisons. Documents the growing number of protests among asylum seekers in Britain, many of whom speak out for the first time about abuses they say they suffered under Britain’s immigration laws. Features the death of Joy Gardner following an attempted deportation in July 1993; also examines other deaths in detention centres and prisons including that of ZaÔrean asylum seeker Omasase Lumumba, who was killed by prison officers in Pentonville Prison in 1991.
