- Synopsis
- Charts the development of the cities of Paris and Rome in the 19th century. By the start of the century, Napoleon had created an empire with Paris as its capital and Rome as its second city. Later, Napoleon III thransformed Paris into a modern, elegant and hygenic city. After the unification of Italy, Rome’s struggle to emulate Paris was complicated by disputes with the Vatican and the dominance of its ancient monuments.
