Synopsis
During Stalin’s rule, the Soviet secret police subordinated to the NKVD - the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs - providing him with a tool to maintain his reign of terror. Led by Yagoda, Yezhov and the Beria, they played the key role in the mass purges of the 1930s, consolidating immense resources and political power to permeate all of the aspects of the Soviet reality. After Stalin’s death, the same agency would emerge as the KGB. Includes footage of the 1930s show trials and the NKYD troops’ participation in the Second World War.
