Steps Problem Modules

Synopsis
Problem-based modules in statistics suitable for use in practical sessions using material from biology, geography, business and psychlogy. Approximately 1-3 hours of teaching material per module.
1 (17 disks): All creatures great and small (BMI); skinfold thickness (SFT); trials and tribulations; the birds and the bees; IgE (immunoglobulin E); ‘ROC’ (medical screening); Eureka!; sterility testing; dyed eyes; the case of Luddersby Hall; spatial pattern of a plant population; birds of a feather I: an introduction to statistics; birds of a feather II: RATS - hypothesis testing; pre-natal detection of genetic diseases; angina.
2 (14 disks): Bank account blues; probability models; market testing Sunjoy; unfinished business; exploring pharmaceutical company environments; comparing pharmaceutial company behaviour; suppliers: do they measure up?; salary distributions; equipment breakdown; quality control.
3 (6 disks): Pennine rainefall: a visual approach; human migration; rainfall and river flow; predicting rainfall; Pennine rainfall: a numerical approach; travel to work.
4 (5 disks): Bullying in schools (Chi-square tutorial - examines whether two categorical variables are associated); exploring dyslexia; predicting dyslexia; head injury; spatial memory.
