Synopsis
Describes the terminal building at Stansted Airport, Norman Foster’s largest building in Britain, which features a distinctive floating umbrella roof, supported by 36 free-standing steel trees, together with glazed curtain walls, giving an impression of extraordinary lightness. Architect John Winter talks, on site, to Spencer de Grey, Director of Foster Associates, and to David Williams of the British Airports Authority.
