Spongers, The

Synopsis
A mother with four children, deserted by her husband, fights for her welfare rights. One of the children has Down’s syndrome. The play is set against the Silver Jubilee celebrations, in a time of high unemployment and public spending cuts. The impetus for the play comes from the exaggerated stories in the popular press about social security scroungers.
