Best Friends: Natural Enemies

Synopsis
Looks at biological pest control, using predatory insects, Describes the procedures involved in the integrated pest management (IPM) of a large commercial orange orchard in Queensland. A co-ordinated approach by a government agency, the grower and a private consultant resulted in a dramatic reduction in the usage of chemical pesticides with no loss in fruit quality. Shows the control activity, life cycles and rearing of two species of parasitic wasp and a predatory ladybird and details the development of a cost effective IPM strategy involving both biological control and pesticide application.
