Sonic Boom, The: Sound Waves Through the Air

Subtitle
Sound waves through the air
Synopsis
Demonstrates what a sonic boom is and how it is produced. A sequence of graphic animations shows how sound waves spread out from a stationary source moving at different velocities up to twice the speed of sound. The important features of the sound wave pattern are pointed out. This is followed by an animation of a jet that is flying faster than the speed of sound.
