Synopsis
Charts the history of the battle of the Somme and and looks at its legacy. Follows the fortunes of various regiments and individuals from Yorkshire and the North East who took part in the 4 1/2 month-struggle during which the British crept forward and the Germans were forced back inch by inch. Uses archive material from the Imperial War Museum, the Peter Liddel Collection at the University of Leeds and many private collections.
