Soil Surveyor: Fettercairn Data Set

Synopsis
A CAL module for soil science which simulates a soil mapping assignment and is designed to develop skills in soils mapping. It allows the student to examine many facts of a landscape and simulate fieldwork techniques. It demonstrates that there are definable relationships between land forms, parent material, climate, vegetation, and soil, and between soil attributes; that these relationships enable us to predict the unseen from the seen; that to make wise decisions about land use and management, information has to be dug out of the landscape; decisions are often made on the basis of predictions about the pattern of the soil cover and the response of soils to management. Approximately 15 hours of teaching material.
