Social Animal, The

Synopsis
The series presents research in experimental psychology which reveals significant concepts and methods in the scientific study of behaviour. This film demonstrates how, by isolating a single aspect of man’s behaviour and investigating it under controlled laboratory conditions, the social psychologist studies the ways in which man is influenced and altered by his society. The effect of group pressure to conform is demonstrated through the experimental work of Dr Stanley Schachter of Colombia University; the consequences of publicly stating ideas contrary to one’s private belief are shown by Dr Leon Festinger of Stanford University; and the nature of the bargaining process is explored by Dr Norton Deutsch of Bell Laboratories.
