Silent Movies / Personal Awareness and Response Training
- Synopsis
- SILENT MOVIES is a video version of exercise 6 in ‘Swift to Hear’ by Michael Jacobs (1985, London: SPCK, pp 30-2). Eight episodes relate stories which express a range of feelings through non-verbal communication alone, testing students’ abilities to recognise non-verbal cues. Each episode is shown three times: with a head-and-shoulders shot, with hand and body movements emphasised, and with sound, so that students can check the accuracy of their interpretations. (22 minutes)
PERSONAL AWARENESS AND RESPONSE TRAINING is suitable for use in basic skills training. Six people present the counsellor with a fairly strong emotional statement. Each scene is repeated. The first time through, viewers are asked to monitor what the speaker makes them feel. The DVD is then re-started and the scene is repeated. This time students are asked to write down what they might say in response. (9 minutes) - Language
