Siberian Shaman
- Synopsis
- Portrays a Siberian shaman belonging to the Nganassan people who live in the north of Central Siberia, showing what the shaman’s tasks consist of and how they are fulfilled. Discusses the concept of the world upon which shamanism and shamanistic practices are based. The shaman points out some important elements of his costume and talks about their function and meaning in accordance with certain cosmological beliefs. He is shown carrying out a shamanistic seance culminating in an act of piercing. Discusses certain aspects of the funeral customs of the Nganassans and the spiritual concepts in which they are connected.
