Synopsis
An adaptation of the 19th-century Russian novelist Nikolai Leskov’s transposition of Macbeth to the Siberia of his time. Leskov’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, also served as inspiration for Shostakovitch’s opera of the same title, and much of this film is operatic, as well as being influenced by Kurosawa’s THRONE OF BLOOD.
