Siamese Twins

Synopsis
Looks at the surgical attempt to separate the young Siamese twins Dao and Duan, who are 3-year-old Thai orphans. They share a pelvis and a third leg, their spines and lower colons are fused and each twin has just one kidney that shares a single bladder. They travel to Boston for surgery which could kill or cripple them. As well as the planning of the intricate operation, the film also observes the twins’ dependence on each other and their growing attachment to their American foster family.
The 1997 updated version revisits the twins two years on from their critical operation to find out how each has coped with separation.
