Sherpas of Nepal, The

Synopsis: A study of the diverse life-styles of three Sherpa brothers, all born in the village of Thami. Phowa Tensing is portrayed, together with his parents, as pursuing the traditional way of life of a Khumbu Sherpa, cultivating, herding and engaging in a now limited trade with Tibet. Dorje is a celibate monk affiliated to the local monastery. Mingma, the eldest, has opted out of Khumbu life and, based in Kathmandu where his wife and children reside, engages in the prestigious and remunerative profession of mountaineering guide *RAI.
