Sexual Reproduction in the Green Alga ‘Hydrodictyon Reticulatum’

Synopsis
All stages of the reproductive cycle of ‘Hydrodictyon reticulatum’: free divisions of the nuclei in the already multinucleate cells of the colony, splitting of the protoplasm and the subsequent formation of motile biflagellate gametes, the exit of the gametes from the mother cell, and the various methods of copulation. The zygote may then form a resting zygospore, and germination is connected with meiosis. The formation of meiospores and their release, the development of the characteristic polyeders, and the final development of the daughter colonies are all illustrated.*
