Sex Education

Synopsis
A video-based pack designed to help secondary schools meet statuatory requirements to provide sex education for all pupils.
1 (30 min): School governors are required by law to have a policy on sex education. This programme looks at the legal issues involved in setting up a school policy, including case studies and models of good practice, and interviews with working governors and practitioners in the field.
2 (30 min): Teachers discuss key questions such as why and how of teaching sex education, Highlights a number of schools achieving good practice, looking not only at pupils’ needs but also those of parents and the local community.
3 (20 min each): Three programmes using a mixture of drama and documentary material to encourage self-awareness, self-esteem and a sense of moral responsibility. BEHIND CLOSED DOORS examines the impact of sex in everyday life and why people find it difficult to talk about sex and sexuality. Also includes information on the human body and puberty. GETTING IT TOGETHER explores relationships and gives information on contraception, pregnancy and abortion. CHANGING THE SCRIPT discusses sexual stereotypes and myths, stresing the necessity of social skills. Includes information on sexually transmitted diseases, HIV and AIDS.
