Services, Or They All Do It

Synopsis
A performance recorded at the Gate theatre in London, on 19 February 1996 in the Gate Biennale, a celebration of contemporary European theatre. The play, written in 1994 by Austrian Elfriede Jelinek, translated by Nick Grindell, and directed here by Annie Siddons, concerns two married women, weary of the sterility of their sexual existences, who arrange a secret liaison with two men code-named Moose and Bear who offer raw animal sex in a dingy motorway service station. Constructed along the lines of ‘Cosi Fan Tutti’, this cruel and pornographic comedy was premiered in Vienna in 1995.
