Separation of Fish and Prawns (Nephrops) Within Trawls
- Synopsis
- The separator trawl uses a horizontal panel of netting to create two compartments leading to two separate cod-ends. Describes fish behaviour patterns, which can be utilised to divide species within the mouth of the trawl. Haddock and whiting rise into the top compartment, while prawns (nephrops), cod and flatfish stay low and enter the lower compartment. Shows technical aspects of how to fit the panel.
