Seeing with Sound

Synopsis
Shows uses of ultrasound in imaging and shows ultrasonic vibrations on an oscilloscope. Demonstrates a device which makes ultrasonic wavefronts visible using a photoelastic effect. Shows how ultrasonics can be used to detect flaws in metal. Shows how ultrasonic imaging can be further refined to produce a ‘picture’ of a human foetus still in the womb, and then a machine that can make a hologram or three-dimensional picture using ultrasound.
