Synopsis
A series in which modern engineers are challenged to reproduce some of the great monuments of ancient civilisations, using historical research and engineering techniques.
1 (producer Cynthia Page): A team of experts and volunteers creates a replica of one of Stonehenge’s trilithons in a field in Wiltshire.
2 (producer Michael Barnes): A team of architects and historians travel to Machu Picchu in Peru to analyse the Inca temples and fortresses and build an Inca-type woven grass suspension bridge.
3 (producer Cynthia Page): The puzzle of a roof covering the Coliseum in Rome - engineer Ove Arup and a team of engineers attempt to recreat the awnings using timber, canvas and rope.
4 (producer Michael Barnes): A team of historians and engineers attempt to create a granite obelisk using only the tools available to the ancient Egyptians.
