Second Nature

Synopsis
Derelict land can be regard as either decaying poisoned wasteland or an uncultivated wildlife site. It co-exists with the steady erosion of greenfield sites. The Ackers Project in Birmingham and the West Midlands County Council’s nature conservation strategy examine ‘urban deserts’ and ‘wildlife havens’ as to their potential for development, recreation or leisure.
