Screenprinting

Synopsis
Introduces the techniques of screenprinting, concentrating on how print is made, following Jane Sampson at work. Covers: 1) the basic equipment, the squeegee, the meshes, the frame and techniques of sketching; 2) stencils: temporary and more permanent, with concentration on direct photo emulsion; 3) washing and preparing the mesh; 4) the clamping to the printing table and the printing of the next colour. This includes an animation sequence of the ‘snap off’ and the advantages of a vacuum table. The inks and bases as well as surfaces that can be printed on. Racking and removal of the stencil and cleaning of the screen. Also shows the work of Brendan Neiland, Harvey Daniels, Sue Gollifer and Terry Gravett.
