Synopsis
Explains the advantages and disadvantages of serum screening for Down’s syndrome in order to provide couples expecting a baby with sufficient information to enable them to decide whether or not to have the test. Introduces people with Down’s syndrome and explains their problems. Covers the nature of the blood test and the fact that only about two thirds of cases are identified. Mentions other abnormalities which may be uncovered. Demonstrates amniocentesis - the collecting of fluids from around the baby - and emphasises throughout the voluntary nature of the procedure.
