Scots on Screen 1899-1936

Synopsis
A compilation of samples of the output of Scottish film-makers in the silent and early sound period. Optional piano accompaniment is provided for three of the titles, reflecting aspects of the experience of watching silent film in the cinema of the day. Includes early topical films shown at the travelling bioscope booths such as LORD AND LADY OVERTOUN’S VISIT TO MCINDOE’S SHOW (c1900) and GORDON HIGHLANDERS (c1988); cinema newsreels and locally made cinema topicals such as LOCHGELLY OAP’S OUTING TO THE CROOK O’DEVON (1928); advertising and promotional films PLAYHOUSE CINEMA ADVERTS, FRASERBURGH (1931) and ST KILDA BRITAIN’S LONELIEST ISLE (1928); and Scottish Film Productions’ cinemagazine THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO NO 1 (1936).
