Safe Use of Electronic Charts, The

Synopsis
Electronic charts offer many benefits to navigation but there is still considerable confusion surrounding the different systems available and their acceptability as the means of primary navigation. This training package looks at the legislative background and its terminology, and compares and contrasts the Vector and Raster systems. Looks at the two types of electronic chart recognised as meeting the SOLAS requirements for safe navigation. These charts are seamless and can be interrogated for additional information - data layers can be removed or adjusted so that the display never becomes cluttered when information is added.
