Rushes: An Analysis of Three Duets

Synopsis

Designed to meet the needs of those who are familiar with the dance from live performances or from viewing the video recording of ‘Rushes’, made several years ago under the auspices of Dance Umbrella. The duets are shown in performance and then their structure is analysed with regard to spatial organisation, dynamics and phrasing, the nature of the partnering etc. Stephanie Jordan outlines how phrases of material used by the choreographer as a starting point are re-moulded and how designs and motifs are treated differently as the dance progresses. Features that are typical of Siobhan Davies’ choreographic work in general are also discussed.
