Synopsis: A television version of Arnold Wesker’s play, written in 1959, about the liberating power of education and the awakening of self-identity. Set in the feudal farming community of 1950s’ Norfolk, Beattie (Jane Horrocks), returns from sophisticated London, to find her family too busy scratching a living to be bothered with culture and politics.
