Room for Improvement
- Synopsis
- CITY WATCH is a series of six films about Birmingham’s Environmental Services Department. Each film follows an individual or a group of environmental health officers and other officials on a ‘typical’ day as they try to protect the people of Birmingham from diseases, filth, fraud and unscrupulous landlords. They are responsible for food hygiene & infectious diseases, health and safety, environmental protection, coroner’s services, veterinary services, waste disposal, fraud and special investigation, motor vehicle investigation and fair trading. Here, the Housing Action Team look at some of the problems of houses with multiple occupation and talk to both tenants and landlords. Multiple occupation includes guest houses, bed and breakfast hotels, hostels, registered care homes and groups of students living in one house. Environmental health officers have powers to enter properties and require improvements.
