Rival World, The

Synopsis
Shows some 30 insects and their beneficial or harmful effects. Emphasises the desert locust and its organised scientific control. The film is valuable for its exceptionally good visual material which shows various living insects and the damage these creatures cause. Its philosophy is now distinctly outdated - for example, the global magnitude of the problem of pest control has become relatively diminished by being overtaken by even more pressing socio-economic problems. Also, the massive use of insecticides is now under attack on the grounds of pollution and disturbance of the ecological balance.
