Ridge and Furrow

Synopsis
A record and explanation of some of the last remaining traces of medieval strip fields illustrated by areas of ridge and furrow. For centuries strip farming was virtually the universal system of manorial agriculture in England. Examples are filmed in the Harlestone part of the Althorp estate, the home of Earl Spencer, where nearly four-fifths of the original ‘township’ of fields still survives.
