Richard III: An Introduction

Synopsis
Part of a series of educational films intended to serve as an introduction to each play’s theme or atmosphere. Designed to reproduce the conditions of acting in Elizabethan times such as having the same actors play several roles, thus showing how the plays were originally written for a specific company of actors. Includes extracts from Act I i (Richard’s soliloqy beginning ‘Now is the winter of our discontent...') and Act I ii (Richard wooing the widowed Lady Anne). Made on a reconstructed Elizabethan stage to show how the stage permitted the plays to move swiftly and kept the actors in close contact with their audiences.
