- A discussion on European theatre recorded at the Gate theatre in London, on 6 March 1996 as part of the Gate Biennale, a celebration of contemporary European theatre. Karen Johnson of the Directors Guild of Great Britain and Helen Salmon of the International Theatre Institute brought together leading theatre practitioners to debate the potentials and pitfalls of contemporary European collaboration. Genista McKintosh discusses with Richard Eyre, Artistic Director of the Royal National Theatre and Ion Caramitru, a prominent Romanian actor/director, whether there are styles of production peculiar to Britain and Romania, and whether recent political and social changes have affected the theatre in both countries.
