Rethinking Rape
- Synopsis
- Focuses on rape by acquaintance (the most common form), presenting the experiences and views of victims, experts and a near-rapist, showing the lasting trauma of rape victimisation and drawing out the relations between socialisation, cultural values and media productions in the creation and maintenance of a sexist, rape-prone society. Examines the differential, sex-based emphases on male power and dominance versus female submission and objectification, and elucidates the consequences in terms of gendered social identity. Edward Donnerstein examines the connection between pornography and rape.*
