Restoration of a Painting, The

Synopsis
Shows some of the basic processes used in cleaning and restoring oil paintings on canvas. About the methods of Harry Woolford, who recently retired from the post of chief restorer to the National Galleries of Scotland. Shows him talking about his work and restoring a 17th-century still life by Snyders from the University of Glasgow Fine Art Collection. Shows the various stages in its restoration - test cleaning, removal of old lining canvas, re-lining using traditional flat-iron technique, cleaning, re-touching, re-stretching and varnishing.
